Firebox – fireclay, fireclay substitute, vermiculite, fireclay mortar, and stove glass panels

The firebox of a fireplace or stove is made up of firebox plates. These are predominantly made of fireclay or vermiculite (fireclay substitute). 

These firebox plates are wear parts, just like tires on a car. With new fireclayor Fireclay Substituteplates (vermiculite) you can quickly and easily replace defective plates. Fine hairline cracks are not yet a problem. However, if these cracks grow larger and holes start to form, you must take action and replace them.

Vermiculite plates are usually only clamped or slotted into place in the firebox, while fireclay bricks tend to be mortared in with fireclay mortar. Take a look inside your fireplace or wood-burning stove and try to restore the firebox to the condition intended by the manufacturer.
