The ash pan can be installed in place of the standard fireclay stone. When the ash pan is full, the included lid allows for easy removal and disposal of the ash. The handle is mounted so it can be rotated, allowing it to be positioned into the slots of the ash pan. This makes it easy and convenient to remove the ash pan. A great idea and simple to implement.
