Chimney sealing set up to D=300mm

If a stove is relocated, the existing chimney opening (approx. 300 mm) must be sealed cleanly and properly. Proper sealing means that no draught resistance or possibility for fly ash deposits arises on the inside. The seal must therefore be very smooth on the inside and flush with the rest of the chimney.

That's not as easy as it sounds! So how should you proceed?

Chimney connections can be neatly sealed using the chimney closure set. The cardboard tube is fixed inside the chimney with the rubber rings and fixing rods. The repair mortar can then be carefully layered onto the cardboard. Make sure there is a solid bond to the edges of the hole. 

Take a look at the sequence of images for clarification:

1. A chimney opening that needs to be sealed. Inside is the clay pipe, which must be sealed smoothly and flush.
   
2. First, the cardboard tube is inserted into the round clay pipe. The cardboard tube must, of course, be larger than the hole so that no gap remains. You can choose from 3 different sizes.
   
3. The rubber rings fitted are used to bring the cardboard tube into the correct position.
   
4. The long fixing rods can be used to hold the cardboard tube in the desired position.
   
5. Now begin carefully layering the repair mortar step by step.
   

After the drying time, the fixing rods are removed and the rubber is cut through. 

Afterward, some insulation and a matching panel, made of firebrick, for example, are fitted above to provide the final seal. 

The chimney can then be cleaned or painted as usual.
