What are bassine bristles?

Bassine is a particularly durable natural fiber obtained from the leaf ribs of the palmyra palm. The palmyra palm mainly grows in India and Sri Lanka. Due to its high strength, abrasion resistance, and flexibility, bassine fibers have proven especially effective as bristle material for stove pipe cleaners and pipe brushes.
