FAL throttle valves are used to regulate the chimney draft. If the stove pipe itself does not have a throttle valve installed, this throttle valve with a continuous shaft is used for subsequent installation.
The throttle valve is a metal plate made of FAL (fire-aluminized sheet steel) that can be installed in the stove pipe. It has a continuous shaft. After installation, this handle is located outside the stove pipe. This allows the throttle valve to be turned open and closed.
The chimney draft should only be regulated once adjustment via the primary and secondary air slides no longer brings improvement.
A strong draft ensures good ignition of the fire, but the heat generated is also quickly carried away. The correct setting of the throttle valve reduces this considerably.
If the stove or fireplace is not used for a long period, the throttle valve should also be closed. However, care must be taken to open it again the next time the fire is lit. If this is not done, you can expect a large cloud of smoke at the installation site. The flue gases will then be unable to escape, as the chimney draft will be too weak.
